With a modern style & youthful atmosphere, Jacobs Inn delivers the goods – find out what else makes it one of the top hostels in Dublin!
Contents
Location of Jacobs Inn
Jacobs Inn has a fantastic Dublin location, just up the road from the Busaras bus & Connolly train stations – for me here at DIY Travel HQ, it made arriving & leaving super-convenient!
There are also plenty of nearby tram (Luas) & bus stops for getting around the city.
Trinity College is across the River Liffey, along with the city centre & Temple Bar nightlife district – all within a 15 minute walk from Jacobs Inn.
Dorm Rooms at Jacobs Inn
I stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm room at Jacobs Inn, which was really spacious & clean. The room also included a dresser with a mirror and a small table & chair setting.
The bed & duvet were comfortable although the pillow was a little flat – this seems to be the norm in most Irish hostels though.
My favourite feature was the personal fittings that came with each bed. It was awesome to have my own light, plug & USB sockets so I could charge my electronics securely in bed. I also loved having a curtain for a touch of privacy.
I was able to store my whole backpack (and valuables) in a large caged storage locker under the bed. It had wheels on it which made for easy access.
Check out this fantastic post if you’re wondering what to pack for Ireland!
The ensuite bathroom was huge and also kept very clean. The shower & sinks have automatic timer settings, which I felt actually wasted more water, especially when brushing your teeth!
Apart from 6-12 bed dorms, Jacobs Inn also offers private rooms for 1-4 people.
Kitchen & Free Breakfast at Jacobs Inn
Jacobs Inn is a large hostel & it has an industrial-style kitchen to match! It’s a huge, functional space with multiple fridges, ovens, stove top burners and sinks.
There’s plenty of counter space to prep your food and all types of pots & pans. What’s more, it’s also kept very clean & well-organised.
Breakfast is served every morning between 7:30am to 9:30am. There’s a lot on offer including:
- Toast
- Cereal & muesli
- Butter & jams
- Fruit cocktail
- Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice & milk
The dining room is bright & spacious, with lots of communal tables & chairs. There was always a great atmosphere at breakfast time.
I really liked starting each day in Dublin with some coffee & toast and chatting to the people around me about the day ahead.
Social Spaces at Jacobs Inn
Whether you need some alone time or are keen to make new friends, there are plenty of places to chill-out spaces at Jacobs Inn:
-
Games Room
The Games Room is awesome! It looks like it’s been newly renovated with a fresh coat of paint, funky wall art & lighting.
There’s a pool table, foosball table, TV, corner sofas & scattered beanbags.
It’s away from everything else, which is just as well for those noisy competitive types! Or if no-one is playing, this is a great quiet corner of the hostel you can have to yourself.
-
Home Cinema
Beneath the Games Room is a home cinema with a big screen TV & comfy couches to sink into. It can be divided from the rest of the hostel by a curtain to really set the mood!
Feel free to put something on at any time of the day – movies are usually shown every night.
For the more intellectual types, there’s also an awesome giant chess table, board games & a book swap in this area.
-
Living Room
Next to the Games Room is an open living room with 3 different areas to hang out in.
There are sofas & coffee tables in the middle of the room, as well as booth style seating along the walls with individual outlets. And near the window, there’s a high table with bar stools & more outlets.
-
Rooftop Terrace
Take the stairs or elevator up to the 4th floor & you’ll find a large rooftop terrace with nice views of Dublin!
There’s plenty of space with long wooden tables & benches.
It’s a great place to hang out at any time of day with a drink, book or laptop if you’re a digital nomad like me 🙂
Other Features of Jacobs Inn:
-
Free Walking Tour
There’s a free, 3 hour walking tour of Dublin starting at Jacobs Inn every morning at 10:00am. I didn’t do it, but I heard a lot of good things from others & it sounds like it’d be a great introduction to the city, especially if you’re short on time.
-
Pub Crawl
The legendary Jacobs Inn Pub Crawl happens every night! For €12 you get a pint of Guinness, free club entry, free shots & discounted drink specials all night. I believe you meet up with backpackers from other hostels in Dublin so it sounds like a lot of good craic!
-
Security
Swipe cards are used not only to access your room but throughout the hostel. This was a little annoying but it did make me feel very safe, especially in such a large hostel. There’s also someone at reception 24 hours a day.
-
Tour Desk
If you’re looking at making any daytrips from Dublin, tours are the way to go as they’re often cheaper than making your own way there by public transport. There are plenty of brochures you can go through in the lobby or the staff can give you suggestions & make bookings for you.

Hostels that take privacy into consideration are always nice. My favourite hostels across New Zealand all had curtains on the dorm beds, along with a shelf, socket and usb charging port in the bed.
This definitely looks do-able, even for a Zoomer like myself. Love all the different communal spaces, the free breakfast and that gorgeous rooftop.
Clean, a curtain, and a personal outlet sell me on most hostels but the extras at this make it even better!
This looks like a great hostel! For me little details like the curtain & personal plug socket make a real difference. I like the games room too – will check this out when I go to Dublin!
I love funky hostels. Ill have to look this one up if I plan a trip to Dublin!
Looks like a very nice, comfortable and clean place to spend a few days in good company.
