Hotel Aurora History
Hotel Aurora exists by chance, & persists by pure passion from owner Angela.
After spending considerable time in Montezuma, Angela contemplated leaving the small village to continue her adventures around Costa Rica & the rest of the globe.
However, the locals offered her a piece of land at a fair price to keep their beloved guest, & Hotel Aurora was born.
Let us here at DIY Travel HQ show you around!
Hotel Aurora has expanded over the years & has grown level by level.
There are currently over 30 rooms to choose from with a range of conveniences, which is a far cry from its origins.
Gone are the days of lighting by candle & the adjacent soccer field has since been converted into a family friendly park.
Who knows what the next round of improvements will entail?!

Standard Room – The standard rooms at Hotel Aurora are located on the first floor & start at $45.00 a night.
Junior Suite – Junior Suites are located on the 2nd & 3rd levels & include the use of hammocks along with wood paneling in the rooms. Prices start at $50.00.
Suite – Suites are also located on the 2nd & 3rd levels with the added bonus of a TV & private balcony with furniture and/or a hammock. Prices start at $55.00.

- Mini-fridge

- Private sitting space outside
You can also add air conditioning for $10 & hot water for $5 per day, respectively.
One of the aspects we loved most about Hotel Aurora was that each room still had private sitting areas even though the hotel was free flowing & not overly regimented like traditional hotels.
Here’s an example:
Our own Junior Suite on the third floor not only had a table for two, but several comfortable lounge chairs surrounding a coffee table for relaxing.
There was even a thoughtful ceiling fan to help keep things cool.

Hotel Aurora Common Areas
There are two common areas shared among guests at Hotel Aurora, which include a dual kitchen & a TV lounge by reception.
Junior Suite guests also can use the hammocks located on the 2nd level.
The kitchen is a great bonus to Hotel Aurora as it allows you to self-cater & enjoy your own culinary creations. It is especially helpful to those with dietary conditions or guests that might want a simpler meal compared to eating out three times a day. There’s a lovely view into the shaded park as well.
The dual kitchen has two identical sides that are fully stocked with crockery, & both have a stove & sink. This is a differentiator for Hotel Aurora since you can freely enjoy your own food & drinks at your accommodation. The fridge in your room helps keep your perishables cold, fresh, & away from the local wildlife.
Hotel Aurora Wildlife
You don’t need to leave Hotel Aurora to spot wildlife – they will come to you!
During our stay we saw capuchin monkeys in the trees across the street, an armadillo cruising through the park at night, & birds joining us for meals. There is also a resident iguana & an anteater tried to check-in to one of the rooms before it wandered off.
Things to See & Do in Montezuma

Awesome Find! Love that its so close to the beach and waterfalls and day hiking adventures in the heart of nature. Plus that price point for something so exotic is awesome! Is the $5 hot water fee necessary or is it warm enough there not to be too icy?
What a cool place. Completely chill and not like the big places people come back from Costa Rica shouting about. I love how it feels like a commune. I dig it.
